Production Methods
Ferrovanadium is produced in several ways:
The main method of obtaining the alloy is silicothermal (silico-aluminothermic). In the smelting process, vanadium pentoxide is first obtained from the ore, which is then reduced in an electric furnace using silicon or aluminum.
The hydrometallurgical method is used when the vanadium content in titanium-magnesium ore is high. The iron-vanadium concentrate is rounded or subjected to agglomeration, obtaining vanadium pentoxide.
In the pyrometallurgical process, vanadium is obtained from cast iron formed after the agglomeration of iron-vanadium concentrate. Cast iron is oxidized in a converter, obtaining slag with 10% vanadium.
