Ferro Vanadium 50 is an iron alloy obtained by reducing vanadium pentoxide with carbon in an electric furnace, or by reducing vanadium pentoxide with silicon in an electric furnace. It is widely used as an element additive in smelting vanadium alloy steel and alloy cast iron, as well as in manufacturing permanent magnets.

Ferrovanadium is a good oxidizing agent and protects steel surfaces from oxidation and corrosion, thus extending their service life and saving maintenance costs. In areas where chemical reactions need to be accelerated, such as rocket propellant fuels, the addition of a certain amount of ferrovanadium can promote the speed and intensity of the chemical reaction, resulting in a more rapid and intense reaction.
How do you make ferro vanadium?
Raw Materials:Vanadium-containing Ore: Vanadium is usually obtained from vanadium-bearing minerals such as vanadinite, patronite, and magnetite.
Iron: Iron is a key component of ferrovanadium, and it is typically added in the form of iron ore or iron scrap.
Ore Processing:Vanadium-containing ore is processed to extract vanadium pentoxide (V2O5). This is a common intermediate step in the production of vanadium compounds.
Vanadium Pentoxide Reduction:Vanadium pentoxide is reduced to ferrovanadium through a smelting process. This reduction is often carried out in an electric arc furnace.
A mixture of vanadium pentoxide, iron, and other alloying elements (if needed) is melted in the furnace.
Alloying:Alloying elements, such as aluminum or silicon, may be added to adjust the final composition of the ferrovanadium alloy.
Refining:The molten metal is refined to remove impurities. This can involve processes such as refining in a ladle furnace or using other refining agents.
Casting:The refined molten metal is cast into the desired shape, typically as ferrovanadium ingots or other forms suitable for further processing or use.
Cooling and Solidification:The cast alloy is allowed to cool and solidify.
Crushing and Screening:The solidified alloy is crushed into smaller pieces and then screened to achieve the desired size distribution.
