Ferroalloy Fvd50

Ferrovanadium FVd50 - characterised by high vanadium content - from 48 to 60%. It is used mainly in the production of alloy steel and cast iron. By binding nitrogen, ferrovanadium reduces the sensitivity of steel, but increases its strength, heat resistance, hardenability and wear resistance. In ferrous metallurgy, ferrovanadium is used in alloying steel, alloys and cast irons to obtain a fine crystalline structure, to increase the impact toughness and resistance of steel to alternating loads, and to increase hardenability. Nitrided ferrovanadium is designed for alloying high-speed, low-alloyed, stainless and frost-resistant steels with vanadium and nitrogen.
Ferrovanadium is a special ferroalloy containing 35-45% V, 1-3% Si, 0.5-1.5% Al (the rest is Fe and impurities); it is most often smelted in electric furnaces by silicothermic method from vanadium pentoxide (85-95% VaOz) obtained during chemical and metallurgical processing of iron-vanadium concentrate. F. is used mainly for steel alloying. Along with Ferrovanadium FVd50, a number of other Silikovanadium ferroalloys are produced, smelted in electric furnaces, as well as metallic vanadium and rich Ferrovanadium FVd80 (up to 80% V), produced by a special out-of-furnace aluminium-thermal method.
