The main consumer of ferromolybdenum is the iron and steel industry, as Mo is the most important alloying element in many steels, cast irons and alloys. The distribution of molybdenum use for the production of related materials is as follows:

Ferromolybdenum is used instead of pure molybdenum in the alloying of steel, cast iron and alloys. Thus, in steel, the molybdenum content ranges from 0.1-0.3 % (alloy steel) to 3-10 % (tool steel). Molybdenum improves hardenability and hardenability of steel, increases its toughness, eliminates tempering brittleness of chromium-nickel steel, contributes to the preservation of steel properties at high temperatures. Addition of molybdenum to cast iron increases its strength and resistance to wear.

Molybdenum has been shown to significantly improve the mechanical properties of materials, as well as to improve corrosion resistance, heat resistance and wear resistance.
