Ferroalloys Extend The Properties Of Steel

The process of alloying and creating steel with the help of ferroalloys allows you to improve and optimize its physical and mechanical properties. Steel can be alloyed with one or more ferroalloys.

  • For example, ferrotungsten reduces the sensitivity of steel to tempering embrittlement, making it resistant to shock loads and vibration. It also improves the high-temperature strength, wear resistance, hardness, durability, and ductility of steel. Tungsten steel grades include 18Cr2Ni4WN, 15CrNiMn2WN, 38CrNiZnWN, CrWSiMn and CrW4.
  • Ferromolybdenum improves the high-temperature strength, tensile strength and yield strength of steel, as well as reduces tempering embrittlement and improves pitting corrosion resistance. "Molybdenum" steel grades: 40CrNiMoN, 38CrMoAlN, improved with chromium and nickel: 18Cr2Ni4MoN, 08Cr17Ni13Mo2Ti, 10Cr17Ni13MoTi.
  • Ferroniobium is used to improve the fine structure of steel by increasing impact hardness, ductility, heat resistance, and creep resistance, as well as reducing corrosion along grain boundaries. "Niobium steel grades include: 20Cr1Mo1M1NbR, 18Cr11MoWVNb, as well as nickel-improved steel grades: 03Cr16Ni15MoZNb, 08Cr18Ni12Nb, 03Cr21Ni21Mo4TiNb.
  • It has been established that ferrovanadium forms a fine-grained structure in steel, reducing the tendency to deformation aging, overheating, weakening during tempering, as well as increasing wear resistance, weldability and casting properties. The addition of tungsten and chromium to the "vanadium" steel grades proved to be particularly beneficial. R9, R18, R6Mo3, R9Mo4Co8, R12V4Co5.
  • Ferronickel is used to increase steel toughness, high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance (in fresh and sea water), reduce quenching rates and increase aging resistance. Nickel steels include 21N5H, ONi6, ONi9, as well as steels improved with chromium (20HN, 45HN). Niobium-enhanced steel includes 12Cr18Ni9Ti, while molybdenum-enhanced steel. 10Cr17Ni13MoZnTi.
