Products Description

Ferromanganese: An iron alloy composed of manganese and iron. Main categories: high-carbon ferromanganese (7% carbon), medium-carbon ferromanganese (1.0~1.5% carbon), low-carbon ferromanganese (0.5% carbon), metal manganese.

Ferro Manganese is produced by reduction of Manganese Oxide in blast furnaces or electric furnaces. It is a very flexible process in that the slags can be reprocessed into Ferro Silico Manganese which in turn can be further refined into Medium and Low Carbon Ferro Manganese.

Production of Ferro Manganese

Ferro Manganese is produced by reduction of Manganese Oxide in blast furnaces or electric furnaces. It is a very flexible process in that the slags can be reprocessed into Ferro Silico Manganese which in turn can be further refined into Medium and Low Carbon Ferro Manganese.

Standard Ferro Manganese (or High Carbon Ferro Manganese) is a commonly used alloy produced by the reduction of Manganese Ore in the presence of Carbon. Typically it contains 75% Manganese and 7% Carbon.

The production of high carbon ferromanganese was first used in blast furnace production, which has high output and low cost, and is still widely used at home and abroad. There are three methods for smelting high-carbon ferromanganese by electric furnace method, one is solvent-free method, the other is solvent method, and the third is low-solvent method. Domestic smelting of high-carbon ferromanganese mostly adopts solvent-free method and low-solvent method.

Application

As deoxidizer and desulfurizer. Manganese has a relatively large affinity with oxygen and sulfur, so manganese is a deoxidizer and desulfurizer for molten steel. In the process of steelmaking, part of the iron is oxidized, and the FeO formed is partially dissolved in the molten steel, which reduces the performance of the steel, so deoxidation must be carried out in the later stage of steelmaking. Since the affinity of manganese to oxygen is greater than that of iron and oxygen, manganese can capture oxygen in ferrous oxide to form MnO which is insoluble in molten steel. Almost all steel grades must be deoxidized with ferromanganese. In the steelmaking process, manganese can reduce FeS to form stable MnS, and MnS is insoluble in molten steel, so manganese is also a desulfurizing agent.
