Ferrosilicon affects steel in the following ways:

Ferroalloy production:
Ferrosilicon is produced either in a blast furnace or in an electric arc furnace by reducing quartz sand (SiO2) with coke in the presence of iron. The melt is poured out of the furnace and solidifies in the form of a flat sheet. After cooling, this sheet is crushed by the appropriate equipment and then further processed in the crusher. The resulting size distribution ranges from small dust-like particles to centimeter-sized pieces. FeSi is screened into different grades by size for further use.
