High Purity Silicon 1101 Description
High-purity silicon 1101 is produced through a process called carbothermic melting. It involves heating silica and carbon material in a special furnace. The resulting silicon has a purity of 97 to 98%, making it suitable for use in metallurgical processes. To obtain a higher grade of silicon, it must be refined to remove impurities and obtain metallic silicon with a purity of 99.7 – 99.8%.
Silica metal smelting involves several steps, including making silica sand blocks, preparing the furnace charge, and smelting in a mineral thermal furnace.
At present, metallic silicon in China is produced by the carbon-thermal method. Silica is used as raw material, and petroleum coke, charcoal, wood sawdust, low-ash coal, etc., are used as reducing agents. The material is then smelted at high temperature in a mineral thermal furnace, converting the silica into metallic silicon. It is a slag-free process of high-temperature submerged arc melting.
