Ferrosilicon 45 Metal Description
Ferrosilicon 45 is produced by melting coke, steel shavings, and quartz (or silica) in an electric furnace. In traditional ferrosilicon refining, silicon is reduced from silica containing SIO2.
Metallurgical coke is most often used as a reducing agent in ferrosilicon smelting, and steel scrap is a regulator of ferrosilicon.
The production of one ton of ferrosilicon requires the following raw materials and electricity:
Silica: 1780-1850 kg
Coke: 890-930 kg
Steel chips: 220-230 kg
Electrode paste: 45-55 kg
Power consumption: 8400-9000 kWh/t
Ferrosilicon 45 is widely used in the steel industry, foundry and other industrial applications.
Ferrosilicon is the most important deoxidizer in the steel industry. At Torch Steel, ferrosilicon is used for deoxidation by precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. Brick iron is also used as an alloying agent in steel smelting. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can greatly improve the strength, hardness, and elasticity of steel, increase the magnetic permeability of steel, and reduce the hysteresis loss of transformer steel. General steel contains 0.15%-0.35% silicon, structural steel contains 0.40%-1.75% silicon, tool steel contains 0.30%-1.80% silicon, spring steel contains 0.40%-2.80% silicon, stainless acid-resistant steel contains 3.40%~4.00% silicon, heat-resistant steel contains 1.00%~3.00% silicon, silicon steel contains 2%~3% silicon or above.
