Ferrosilicon FS65

Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is a ferroalloy, the main components of which are iron and silicon (from 20 to 90%).

Destination:

It is used as a so-called ligature alloy in steel production, which is added in small quantities in order to adjust the properties of the melt, the cooling process and the finished product. In addition, ferrosilicon is used in electrode coatings and in the production of silicon, hydrogen, and magnesium.

Chemical Composition Of Ferrosilicon FS65

C: up to 0.1%;

Si: 63 - 68%;

Mn: up to 0.4%;

S: up to 0.02%;

P: up to 0.05%;

Cr: up to 0.4%;

Al: up to 2.5%.

Ferrosilicon affects steel in the following ways:

increases the grain size of the material, the higher the content of this substance, the higher the granularity;

increases hardenability;

normalizes the annealing temperature;

increases hardening;

enhances strength and hardness;

reduces plasticity;

increases resistance to the oxidation process.

Ferroalloy production:

Ferrosilicon is produced either in a blast furnace or in an electric arc furnace by reducing quartz sand (SiO2) with coke in the presence of iron. The melt is poured out of the furnace and solidifies in the form of a flat sheet. After cooling, this sheet is crushed by the appropriate equipment and then further processed in the crusher. The resulting size distribution ranges from small dust-like particles to centimeter-sized pieces. FeSi is screened into different grades by size for further use.
