Briquetted Ferrosilicon FS45 Description
Ferrosilicon FS45 is smelted in closed electric furnaces, and the more Si-rich alloys of the FS75 - FS92 grades are smelted in open (without a dome) furnaces due to the abundant formation of SiO (gas). The production of ferrosilicon, like crystalline Si, is very energy-intensive. To obtain ferrosilicon FS45, 4800 kW h / t of electricity is consumed.
Ferrosilicon is used for deoxidation and alloying of steel, alloys, cast irons. Rich (> 90%) Si ferrosilicon is used to obtain very finely dispersed SiO2 by preliminary chlorination of Si to SiCl4 and its subsequent hydrolysis. Poor aerosilicon (~ 15% Si) in finely dispersed form (fractions < 40 μm) is used as a weighting agent for aqueous media in the enrichment of minerals (chromite ores, magnesite, etc.).
