errosilicon 45 is produced by smelting ore containing more than 95% silicon oxide, very few slag impurities, and a low-ash reducing agent. Such ore has high electrical resistance and does not contain volatile compounds. Recently, Angarsk semi-coke has been used for these purposes, which meets all the requirements. The smelting process consists of reducing silicon coke with carbon from quartzite in circular electric arc melting furnaces, which are usually of the closed type. The melting process does not stop. Charge is gradually added to the furnace, and the finished alloy is released through a sluice at regular intervals.
