Ferro Silicon 45
Ferro silicon 45 is used to make ferromolybdenum and ferrotungsten by taking oxygen out of metal oxides. The reaction creates 3000-3500°C, which is used to weld rail joints together. In steelmaking, FeSi75 deoxidation requires 2-3 kg per ton of steel. This means that the oxygen content must be reduced to below 30 ppm. The alloy expands and contracts a lot when it gets hot or cold, so you have to be careful how much of it you add to avoid splashing. The size of the pieces of material affects how well it works: material that is 0-10 mm in size dissolves quickly in ladles; material that is 10-100 mm in size is better for blast furnace charging. It will last for more than 12 months if stored at below 25°C and with less than 50% humidity.
