Silicon Calcium Description
Calcium-silicon is a composite alloy of silicon and calcium. In addition, it is a ferroalloy with impurities, including iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur and phosphorus. It is available in both chunk and powder form.
Calcium and silicon react strongly with oxygen, especially metallic calcium, which also exhibits an affinity for sulfur and nitrogen. Calcium silicon is an excellent agent for deoxidation and desulfurization. Silicon alloys are an effective method of removing impurities from steel. Currently, calcium-silicon alloy is an effective replacement for aluminum in the final deoxidation process.
