Calcium-silicon alloys play an important role in the steel industry. They are mainly used for:
(1) Calcium-silicon alloys are used as deoxidizers and desulfurizers in the steel industry. Silicon and calcium in calcium-silicon alloys have a strong affinity for oxygen, and calcium also has a strong affinity for sulfur. Deoxidation and desulfurization products float easily to the surface, improving the properties of the steel and increasing its ductility and toughness. Therefore, calcium-silicon alloys are an excellent deoxidizer. At present, calcium-silicon alloy can replace aluminum as the final deoxidizer and is widely used in steel production. Calcium-silicon alloy is also required for deoxidation in continuous casting.
(2) Calcium-silicon alloy can be used as an effective means to raise temperature. Adding calcium-silicon alloy powder to the steel ingot head as a heating agent can improve the quality of the steel and the yield of the good one.
(3) Calcium-silicon alloy is used as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer in the production of cast iron. Calcium-silicon alloy is more effective than ferrosilicon in improving the properties of cast iron. Calcium-silicon alloy can deoxidize, dephosphorize and increase the silicon content of cast iron, and is an effective inoculant that promotes the formation of nodular graphite. In the actual environment, in order to make better use of the role of calcium-silicon alloy, the particle size of the alloy should be about 2mm, and it should be added directly to the molten iron tank, pig iron mixing furnace or molten iron ladle.
