Silicon nitride is the name of a family of structural ceramics that are used for high-temperature and wear-resistant applications. These include turbocharger rotors, glow plugs, bearings, cutting tools, valves and some refractory components (Riley, 2000; Petzow and Herrmann, 2002; Hampshire, 2016). Silicon nitride with the general stoichiometric formula Si3N4 can be formed as dense ceramics at temperatures from 1750 to 1900°C by various methods, including hot pressing (HPSN), non-pressure sintering (PSN), hot isostatic pressing. (HIPing) or Gas Pressure Sintering (GPS), resulting in ceramics with high flexural strength (600-1200Mpa), high fracture resistance, high thermal shock resistance, high creep resistance, high hardness and excellent erosion resistance.
