The main raw material used for the production of ferromolybdenum is molybdenum trioxide (MoO₃). This compound is usually obtained from molybdenite (MoS₂), which is the most common ore containing molybdenum. The extraction process typically involves roasting the molybdenite ore to convert it to molybdenum trioxide, which is then further reduced with ferrosilicon or aluminium in a smelting process to produce ferromolybdenum.
