Calcium is by far the strongest deoxidizer used in steelmaking. In the molten steel, calcium has a unique chemical connection with the dissolved oxygen and the total oxygen in the non-metallic inclusions. Calcium treatment can improve the grain size of steel, and at the same time, it is a very effective means for desulfurization, deoxidation, alloy fine-tuning and controlling the morphology of inclusions in molten steel, especially with more significant advantages in improving the castability of aluminum-killed steel molten steel.


The seamless calcium wire ladle wire feeding technology was used in steel mills abroad starting in 1970 for the treatment and application of molten steel. It has been widely used in international steel enterprises, especially with the rise and rapid development of thin slab continuous casting technology. The seamless calcium wire technology patent was introduced into China in 1990.
