Introduction to Titanium Iron Materials

An iron alloy with titanium and iron as the main components. It also contains impurities such as aluminum, silicon, carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, etc. Used as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer, degasser, and alloying agent in steelmaking. There are three main varieties based on their titanium content: FeTi30 (containing Ti25.0% to 35.0%, Al<8.5%, Si<5.0%), FeTi40 (containing Ti35.0% to 45.0%, Al<9.5%, Si<4.0%), and FeTi70 (containing Ti65% to 75%, A10.5% to 5%, Si<0.5%). In addition, there are various titanium containing composite alloys such as Ti Si Fe, Ti B Al V, Ti B Al Cr, Ti Al, Ni Ti Al, Ti B Al, Ti Cr Al, etc., used as titanium additives. [1]
Titanium was discovered by W. Gregor in 1791, but it was not named until it was discovered by M. H. Klaproth in 1795 and named "Titans". A. Rossi proposed a patent for the smelting of ferrotitanium using the electro aluminothermic method in 1901, and in 1937, the Soviet Union studied the process of smelting ferrotitanium using the aluminothermic method. Starting from the mid-1950s, production of 70% Ti titanium iron began due to an increase in waste titanium metal materials. China began industrial scale production of titanium iron using the aluminothermic method at the Jinzhou Ferroalloy Plant in 1959.
