FeW70 Ferrotungsten is an alloy composed primarily of iron and tungsten, with the tungsten content typically ranging from 70% to 72%. This alloy is highly prized for its exceptional hardness, high density, and remarkable melting point of about 3400°C (6152°F). Ferrovolfram increases the hardness, wear resistance and strength of steel and other alloys, making it indispensable in a variety of high-performance applications. It also exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion and thermal fatigue, which extends the life of the materials to which it is added.

Ferrotungsten is produced by high-temperature smelting in an electric arc furnace:

Raw material: Tungsten concentrates or scrap, and iron or iron oxide.
Reduction: Raw material is heated in a furnace where tungsten oxide is reduced to tungsten by carbon (coke).
Alloying: The reduced tungsten is alloyed with iron to form ferrotungsten.
Casting: The molten alloy is cast into ingots or other desired shapes for further processing or use.
