Ferrotitanium is one of the most common ferroalloys. It is used as the most budget-friendly, in comparison with the use of clean, as a rule, refractory metals, and energy-saving method of alloying steels and cast iron, to give them the properties of tear resistance, heat resistance, and wear resistance.

FeTi species differ in the content of basic Ti, from 22% to 75%, Fe accounts for 21% to 67%. The aluminum content ranges from 0.5% to 25%. In alloying elements, you can find molybdenum, vanadium, copper, manganese, silicon, zirconium. Traces of components such as tin, sulfur and phosphorus are also noted in the alloys.

Ferrotitanium production:

Ferrotitanium is obtained in two ways.

1) Reduction of titanium from its oxides using aluminum yields an alloy with a titanium content of 40 – 43%. Grades of alloy with a low titanium content are easily divided into fractions, they melt faster due to their high density (6 – 6.2 g/cm2) in comparison with grades enriched with titanium. The disadvantages of this type of material generation are the high concentration of non-ferrous metal impurities, oxygen and nitrogen. The raw materials for this method of production are ilmenite concentrate and waste from the remelting of secondary titanium.

2) Compounds with a high content of ferrotitanium are produced in electric furnaces. The raw material in this case is waste iron and titanium. Smelting takes place in prefabricated furnaces made of cast iron with lined walls. The reduction of ferroalloy is started by ignition of the ignition composition, which consists of saltpeter and magnesium shavings. The resulting ingots are crushed into small fractions. Our factory produces a fraction of 0-2mm, 5-50mm, and 2-200mm.
