Nitrided ferrosilicon is a ferroalloy composed primarily of Si3N4, as well as free iron, non-silicon nitride, and a small number of other components. Industrial nitrided refractory grade ferrosilicon is whitish or brown powder, while steel grade nitrided ferrosilicon is whitish granules.
The powdered form of nitrided ferrosilicon is mainly used in the valve openings of large blast furnaces, and a smaller amount is used in iron runners or other shapeless refractory materials.
