Ferro Silicon 72
Ferro silicon 72 is made up of iron and silicon. The silicon content ranges from 65% to 72%. It is used a lot in steel production. It removes excess oxygen from molten metal. This is important to stop problems like porosity and brittleness. Beyond deoxidation, it strengthens steel by combining with iron to make it harder and stronger. When making cast iron, ferro silicon adjusts the carbon content of molten iron. This helps to create fine graphite structures in grey iron and promotes the formation of spheroidised ductile iron.
