65 Ferrosilicon is an iron alloy consisting of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon is an iron and silicon alloy made of coke, steel chips, quartz (or silica) as raw materials and smelted by electric furnace. Iron can also be used as an alloying element adding agent, widely used in low alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel, ferrosilicon in the production of ferroalloys and the chemical industry, commonly used as a reducing agent. Iron and silicon composed of ferroalloys (silica, steel, coke as raw materials, after 1500-1800 degrees high temperature reduction of silicon melted in the liquid iron to form ferrosilicon alloy), is an important alloy varieties of smelting industry.

Ferrosilicon smelting raw materials
Ferrosilicon is made from coke, steel chips, and quartz (or silica) by smelting in an electric furnace. Traditionally, ferrosilicon is made by reducing silicon from silica containing SIO2. Most smelting of ferrosilicon uses metallurgical coke as the reducing agent, and steel chips are the conditioning agent for ferrosilicon.
The raw material and electricity consumption to produce one tonne of ferrosilicon is:
Silica: 1780-1850kg
Coke: 890-930kg
Steel scrap: 220-230kg
Electrode paste: 45-55kg
Electricity consumption: 8400-9000kwh/t
