CaC2 50-80mm Calcium carbide Description
Calcium carbide is made up of calcium and carbon. It is a solid substance that has a crystalline structure. It is produced by heating calcium oxide with coke in electric furnaces (at a temperature of 1900-1950°C) and then molding into molds. Then the molds are crushed, and the pieces are sorted by size.
As a result, a technical product of dirty dark gray or brown color is obtained, since it contains impurities (coal and other dyes) that make up about 20-25% of the substance. It also contains calcium sulfide and phosphide, which give it an unpleasant odor.
It absorbs water well and even at low temperatures decomposes and releases acetylene gas with a lot of heat when reacting with water. Even the air around it can cause it to decompose.
