When smelting ferrovanadium 80% in an electric furnace, iron scrap, V2O5 in the form of fused pieces (or calcium vanadate in the form of briquettes), crushed ferrosilicon (65-76% Si) and lime are introduced into the furnace to slag the resulting silicic acid. In the aluminothermic method, V2O5 (or ferrovanadate) is mixed with 30-40% (by weight) of iron oxide and aluminum powder (0.7-0.9 kg per 1 kg of ferrovanadium), lime and fluorspar (flux), placed in molds and ignited with thermite (for example, iron-aluminum, which is a mixture of Fe3O4 and Al powder), ignited using a voltaic arc.
