Silicon Metal 441 is a very important additive for non-ferrous alloys. It is made by heating quartz and coke in an electric furnace. Silicon is the main component (accounting for about 99% of the mixture) and in some cases, up to 99.99%. The other impurities are mainly iron, aluminium, and calcium.
