Ferrosilicon 75 Description
Ferrosilicon 75 is produced by smelting iron ore (or steel scrap) and quartz (SiO₂) in an electric furnace, with quartz being the source of silicon and carbon being the reducing agent. At high temperatures, carbon converts quartz into silicon and combines it with iron to produce ferrosilicon.
During the production process, the silicon content of the alloy is regulated by changing the ratio of raw materials and furnace conditions. A silicon content of 75% is a generally accepted standard and is suitable for most requirements in steel production.
